90-96 Miata seats
Hi Gang! Rather than binge watch some meaningless show/s, I thought I’d spend a little time and blog about something;) I am so far behind in blogging, it could be a full time job!;)
Geez, I did it again~ HI! I’m dne’, welcome to Classic Cars and Tools! I’m a bloggin fool~ 😉
Early Miata seats are really awesome seats as they can be used in other vehicles, such as a TR6 and possibly a jeep that I’m currently working on. It just takes imagination and determination to make em fit or honestly, they may not fit at all! However, These also can have speakers in the headrests , well, they will have speakers;)
Alrighty then, A while back, a year ago or a bunch of months ago I’d say, I got carried away buying some worn out Miata seats with the intentions of refurbishing them, like I didn’t have anything better to do~
After taking apart two complete sets, the seat pans on most of them were super rusty, not rusted out, just superficial rust. I soaked each pan in Evaporust for a day or so each unit they were shiny new and them coated them with some Eastwood paint.
Below: These are min-bolt cutters, about the size of a pair of side cutters/wire cutters. These really saved my wrists from cutting a gazzilion, maybe even a Brazzilion old hog rings, however did nothing for saving my fingernails!!:(
See the hog ring pliers here, these aren’t very good and that’s about 100 bucks. I had to grind each one of them down to work properly and lacked springs to hold the hog rings.
Pricey on the left and cheapy on the right. I used a combination of both.
Below: I used burlap to strengthen the bolsters and the seat foam held by a 3m Spray contact glue.
Below; this nifty steamer really helped to refluff the old foam, and kill nasty little germs around my toilet;)
yes, more burlap, I like that word, BURLAP~ SAY IT SLOOOWLYYY~ 😉

These are the early Miata seats currently in my my ’73 Triumph TR6, they’re quite comfy;)
Below: The original trim plastics was a dark blue, but Thanks to the SEM plasticish type paint will make it look new and black!
Well my dears, after spending a great deal of time and money, I finished these~ I sold one set to a friend which he put in his magnificent TR250, and the other set sat around until now.
Decisions decisions, which set of seats look best?
I’m pretty sure I can MAKE THEM FIT and think they’ll look nice in my brothers ’62 Willys jeep. Meh, couldn’t sell em, so why not keep em in the family, no?
I have one more set of these seats, and really don’t want to do anything with them. Upholstering seats is a pain, and rough on the hands, neck, and especially FINGERNAILS!! lol
Ok, grandkids and kids are on the way for the weekend, now for a different type of fun! Must make memories with kids as well, and hopefully rub off some of my talent onto them.
I’ll be back next week with something surely fun, interesting, educational, maybe a little bit about some tool?
