’76 Ford 2600 Tractor injector pump

Hi my friends;) Guess I’ll be blogging for a while, can’t do anything in this persistent heat!

In 1976, my father bought this Ford 2600 Tractor brand new! When he passed, the tractor wound up at a friends place as no one in the family wanted the old tractor. The tractor was stored underneath a lean-to shed for years rotting away. My friend told me he tried to start it, but it would just never fire up.

Well, I ran into a moment of time where I had a window of opportunity to go fetch this poor tractor and breath life back into it;)  So, on April 13, 2021, I let the fun begin!

Here I am with the day I “rolled” it into my awesome garage;) It was sooooo worn!

I really don’t know much about diesel engines, nor how they actually work, but wasn’t long that I joined a tractor forum which got me going pretty quickly.  I can take things apart and put back together, all my viewers know that;)

However, I learned quickly about the fuel injector system. The reason for it not starting was a gummed up fuel injector and the 3 injectors themselves were in bad shape to boot!:(  This is not something I want to repeat, meaning pulling the injector pump back off! gag! A Royal pita to remove!

Funny, for the longest time, I thought the beast was a 4 cylinder! lol

On the tractor forum, a fella by the name of Mike, or Thepumpguysc@aol.com sent me directions of how to start it, if it will start. I did exactly as he said, but to no avail.

Mike sent me this picture of the injector pump disassembled, and said it was in pretty bad shape(rust, crap, etc)  Just too many small parts for me to mess with;)

In addition to the pump, the injectors below were stopped up, so needed new injectors. So, for about a 1000 bucks, got all this back in better than new shape.

Note that the title regards the injector system, but this was a semi-complete restoration and really only took about a month or two, but with dedicated work to complete;)

You should have seen the smile on my face when the little engine that could, did indeed light up! wahooo!!

This is my dad, Mr. Robert E. Cole, Senior. It’s an old picture, but he was young once too, he was probably in his early 30s. (I was like 1 or 2 years old) 😉 In his earlier years he was a postman for 18 years until venturing into store business and owned a very successful coin operated carwash;)

A lot of hard work pays off with a nice looking 1976 Ford 2600 tractor. I use to move trailers and just sit on it when I feel like it. Here’s to you Dad!;)

My gosh, what will I write about next!!! 😉

Hope you all enjoyed my story, have a super day!

That is a super cool looking tractor but you’ll need a trailer to use it for grocery shopping.

haha;) Now that would be something Bruce! Thanks;) Now it just needs a cab and air conditioning! 😉

Well yes, a cab and AC would make those long hot summer shopping trips way more comfortable. I have no doubt that you will accomplish both upgrades in the near future. From what I have seen, Dne’ can do anything.
