Howdy everyone, yes, it’s me Dne’, your hostess and classic car enthusiast of Classic Cars and Tools;)  Let’s get to it! One of the most important parts for a performance upgrade would be in the differential~  for me, now is a good time to upgrade many things including the third-member, pumpkin, chunk, or whatever they’re called these days;) But where to shop~

3:55 positrac with a new casing from Ratrapracing eBay, info@maeracing.com

My go-to for about anything is eBay, after all, we’re all trying to get the best for the least without sacrificing quality;) So, after coming across this particular posi trac, the price enamoured me to call the number at the bottom of the eBay ad and see why his price is lower than everyone else!

I called the number (606-407-2111) and immediately a fella named Jack answer the phone and I introduced myself, like in, “Hi, I’m dne’!;)” The first question was “why is your price so much lower than others”~ sounding a little surprised, he responded by ‘he didn’t know he was the least expensive’. He says he makes a little off each unit he sells and sells quite a few. After talking with him for a little bit, I felt extremely comfortable talking to him as I would a best friend;) We both shared stories, on the phone and via texting, I learned that his daughter (Savanna) works in the shop as well, but she does have another job as too! Anyway, a family business is more important to me than large corporation, and perhaps me being a female of the species helped, I’m sure most of his customers are menfolk?

                                               Visit store

Back in 2008, I bought a used 8″ rear axle, and just cleaned it up, read the blog if you’d like;)                                     67 Mustang 8″ rear axle

Now the price for the advertised 3:55 posi (or whatever ratio or even non-posi, non posi is less dollars) is 879.oo plus 65.oo s/h, but he is getting new cases these days and costs only an additional 100; so why not go for new?!

For an extra 100 bucks, I get a new case!! Awesome! I love shiny new parts, so does Jack!

Jack will be receiving this, my old core, and he has to go through the process of cleaning it, checking it before it can be used. Savanna does a lot around the shop including sandblasting the cases! Impressive!! It’s a lengthy process, I hope someday people will just consider the new cases;)

You might ask, “Geez dne’, why not just use your old pumpkin?” Well curious onlookers, first off this old unit is a 2:79 and has no low end power (or my engine doesn’t have enough grunt to push it), but great for highway driving, but since I’m upgrading to a T5 transmission,(I wish they’d call it a T-1000 like in Terminator) it’s time for some AWESOMENESS! I hope to be able to smoke both my tires! 😉 However, I get to send this usable core to Jack, he pays shipment and credits me 75 bucks! Otherwise this would just be an old boat anchor!

Heaven only knows how far this metal housing has gone!

A lot of cleaning on my old housing, new brakes, etc, and with the new posi installed will be fabulous for another zillion miles!

You may ask why I’m going through all the re-restoration! One word~

Harvey!

Notice the Phillips screws holding the backing plate on;)

below: For me, moving heavy stuff around the garage, I use my “little Mule”, basically a modified hoyer lift, or patient lift like I used when lifting a heavy patient.

My new 3:55 posi trac from MAE or McCane’s Automotive Enterprises

Again, the case is new, not some 50y/o case!

I have to use “brains over brawn”, my super supportive husband Gary, manned the floor jack while I guided the new posi up into its new home;)

Now with the 3:55 posi-trac installed, I can work on getting a new driveshaft!!

Awesome!! 😉

My new driveshaft from Randy’s Driveshaft Service right here in Houston, but they deliver anywhere!

Hey, gather around! Jack is into old cars/truck/hot rodding too! You get the idea, “Intelligent minds think alike?” Well it’s true! Cool people own stuff like this, including Yours Truly!

Well, I guess that’s it for this blog, but I hope if you out there are looking for a 3rd member, or wanting to upgrade for better performance, Call Jack, ask questions, do your homework!  I just like to promote good people and their products!;)

dne’ 😉
