59 Apache engine compartment – Part 1

Hi ya’ll! How are ya’ll doin today?~! ; )  I hope life is good and all is going according to plan! ; )

Well, progress is being made, slowly, but I seem to be moving forward, and not backwards! The pic below was from a while ago soon after the I6 was removed revealing a worn engine compartment and much work to do to “pretty it up”! Much has taken place since this pic!

When one looks under the hood of a classic, I don’t think many just how much work goes into making “Things” look really good! first thing here was welding a bunch of large holes closed and ground smooth.

Then there’s this ridge that runs along the top of the firewall which is almost a nightmare in its own right! Mine had a little rust that had to be dealt with. With this ridge removed, makes for a smooth firewall at the top instead of the ridge.

This is with a lot of the ridge removed, but still much work to do!

This my faithful followers is the front radiator support cover and hood latch “thing”. Looks pretty nasty here and still is! lol I had applied aircraft paint remover, and still needs a lot of work!

This was after the first application of aircraft paint remover and some grinding with a paint buster wheel on my 4.5″ angle grinder. Looking good eh!

Oh, lookie here! yours truly! I have my full breathing system (supplied air from another place) on~ this paint remover is ghastly horrible and probably destroys lung tissue with one whiff! Better to be safe than sorry~ and you don’t want it on your skin!  ; )

Darn, I still need to remove my steering column!

Well, this is about where I am now until I get back at it! There’s much to do, but I can almost imagine installing my pretty engine soon! hope hope!!! ; )

This particular blog is still an ongoing one~ stay tuned!!!!!~ ~ !
