Novak headers for Dauntless V6

Gee dne’, nothing better to do than blog? Hey, it’s 45 degrees here and I feel like telling my stories to my faithful classic cars and tools people!

OK I say! Novak headers! These are THE MOST INCREDIBLY BEAUTIFUL THINGS! I paid the extra bucks and had them finished in the silver ceramic finish~ “I spared no expense!”

Now as far exhaust systems go for the Dauntless V-6, there are many options, but these are the supreme being type;) Besides, I didn’t want to tear up my inner fender wells for exhaust headers!

This is the drivers side, I had just received them and had to try them on!;) sigh;)

OMG, this is by far my favorite picture!!

Now hooooold on, let’s back up a bit and review what the original exhaust manifolds looked like!

Below; the passenger side exhaust manifold with a blocked off port. There’s a member on ECJ5.com site which needed this~ sooooooooo I cleaned it up for him;) Can’t send it to a fellow jeeper dirty now can I~~~

with the heat riser, non functional (flap is gone), but necessary I guess for mounting purposes. IIRC, there’s supposed to be a flap inside this riser helping to heat up the crossover in the intake manifold when cold, then slowly opens up completely, a bimetal spring expands with heat to make that happen, they always rusted out. Also part of the early smog system/emissions.

This is it before media blasting, then sprayed with some Eastwood exhaust manifold paint to make it look much nicer;) Obviously before any work had been done.

Can you believe it, out of the gazzillion pictures, this is the only one with the drivers side exhaust! 🙁  However, the drivers side is prone to breaking and this one is broken and surely at the bottom of a pile of metal at the local metal dump. It’s called a forward dump exhaust, something like that.

This is so ugly, I’m glad I got a hold of it to save it!! 😉

Alrighty then, let’s go to the passenger side exhaust! I don’t want it to feel neglected!

below: a little trimming on the frame was necessary for flange clearance. No biggy!

This was the first day the frame/engine had been rolled outside~ a monumental occasion! 😉

I had read of a few people fabricating their own exhaust, but I’ll be honest, no way I could make an exhaust system, so off to my local exhaust makin place. No, it wasn’t running at this time, I had to tow it to the muffler shop.

I chose this muffler for being the quietest I could get and it’s still has a beefy tone when the engine is up in the RPM’s, purrrrfect! 😉  I used the Eastwood exhaust manifold paint to coat the exhaust what I could get to.

Me, my brother Robo (’62 jeep owner) riding shotgun and two of my grandkids going for a test spin/not completed project yet 😉 That’s what it’s all about, making memories;)

Though you’ve seen a spoiler, there will be many more blogs to come! Stay tuned for further adventures with Yours Truly!

dne’ of CC&T 😉
