Geo Tracker, past project

Good morning!

Since I’ve been working on my present ’97 Geo Tracker, I did have one back in 2005-2006! It’s taken quite a bit of time to find those pictures in my archives in different folders! You know what I mean!

I suppose this was inadvertently my first project car/truck without even knowing that one day, this little truck would be included on Classic Cars and tools!

Here the little Tracker sits out front of my Moms fabulous home, also where I grew up!;)

I actually had a Geo Tracker back in 96 or so. I traded my Suzuki Samurai in on a green Geo Tracker, so I must have a deep underlying love for these little trucks!

This one I found in San Antonio. I think I paid 1600 for it, and it was going to be a “project”. I rented a Tow dolly and drug it home to Houston. Actually it doesn’t look too bad in the photo, but it was pretty dinged up!

The poor little tracker had some issues; the transmission needed over hauling for one. At this time, I wasn’t really doing mechanical work, I let someone else take care of that.

At this time, I knew Corby Genzer, owner and operator of DC Eagle Paint and Body! He had painted all of my motorcycles, and they were always yellow! I had this thing for yellow for some reason.;) Below, and the couple pictures were taken at his paint/body shop. I paid 2200 for a complete paint job. Ouch!

My part in this project was simply to take it apart, and put it back together again! It wasn’t so simple! My beautiful picture

Only a Tracker lover would appreciate this, but see the plastic that goes around the body there, it’s black? Over time, those plastic pieces are what hold the soft top in place. Without those, the soft top would flop all over the place! These become fragile and break. Now they are scarce and if they are to be found, are very expensive! They are not being reproduced that I know of.:(

I found some custom seats on Ebay for about 100 bucks, free s/h and they matched the outside very well. However, as much as I loved yellow, these seats just suck up dirt and have to be cleaned often, and these were rather hard, so made for an already bumpier ride! However, from a show car point of view, they did look great!;)

Of course Discount Tires loved me! A set of American Racing wheels with TA radials really set this truck off! Plus the Hot Wheels decal~ my touch!

Here, this is far as I went with this project, note the hardtop made for a quiet ride, but a pita to remove if wanting a convertible top.  I didn’t keep this little tracker very long and sold it for 6800.oo therefore recovering some money for whatever was next;)

I believe these little Trucks are not appreciated. They are fun, practical, get great gas mileage, and do not take up much parking space!

I hope you’ve enjoyed this little blog! If only I had a garage to keep everything I’ve worked on! Sigh! Well, let’s keep on Truckin~ and have a great day. So from Classic Cars and Tools~ pay attention on the roads and be on the lookout for really cool vehicles! Honk and wave knowing you appreciate them and their rides! dne’;)

Hi there I just wanted to say that I am the current owner to your past Tracker Project! It has changed a bunch since I acquired it a year and a half ago. Just to mention some stuff that has been done….2wd to 4wd conversion, lifted 6in, 30in bfg tko all terrain tires, 5spd man, 5.62 gears front and rear, and almost finished 2.3l stroker motor, and new rally hard top.

Awesome! and super cool the new owner has found this. I’d love to see some pics also. I have a red 96 tracker 4×4 5spd. They are definitely under appreciated.

I’m purchasing my first car Tuesday and it’s a 1992 yellow tracker! It needs some work but I’ve already fallen in love with it, where did you get your seat covers? Also what’s the most reliable place to purchase a new grille?

Sydney, I’m so happy for you, now this is your first car? Let’s get right into it, the seats: Those are aftermarket seats, more than likely I bought off of eBay. They were not expensive, but I did have to do some modifications to make them fit in my tracker. However, you might consider having them re-upholstered, might cost a bit, but worth checking into. As for the grille, I see on Ebay right now, they’re going new for about 74.oo bucks, but check fitment. Now, when getting into technical stuff, you may want to join the Suzuki-forums.com, lot of good Tracker people on that forum and it’s a good place for a new Tracker owner to belong to.;) I haven’t been on there in a while, but do mention that I pointed you there when signing up;) Another place to buy used parts is Tracker Ranch, the owner Fritz is a really nice guy. I’ve been there, it’s in Livingston and he does mail/ship parts. His phone number is 936-327-9613, but it’s been a while since I’ve spoke with him assuming he’s still there; he had a boat load of Trackers there. Eventually you might want to buy the factory service manuals, not the cheapy Chilton, the genuine Geo tracker service manuals. But take it easy and learn about your little truck!;) Have fun, be safe and stay in touch, or let me know if you sign up on the Suzuki forum and I’ll pop in and sign on to your link!!
